OSU Extension lunches planned
Staff report
CANFIELD
The Ohio State University Extension office has two informative lunches scheduled.
Join OSU Extension for the monthly Lunch and Learn from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Mill Creek MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road.
Dave Marrison will give tips for 2014 farm taxes, and Eric Barrett will answer questions about the coming ODA Fertilizer Certification process for farmers applying fertilizer to 50 or more acres of cropland.
The fee is $5 for the catered lunch, and it’s free for farm bureau members.
Jill Ritchie from the Farm Service Agency and Chris Zoller from the OSU Extension also will be available from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. to present information about the 2014 Farm Bill decisions.
The new legislation provides an opportunity to update program yields, formerly called base yields, and to reallocate program acres to better reflect recent planting histories.
On Monday from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Colonial Inn at the Canfield Fairgrounds, 7815 W. Akron-Canfield Road, farm owners are invited to learn about the grain-market outlook from Dr. Matt Roberts of Ohio State University; the dairy and farm business summary from Dianne Shoemaker of OSU Extension’s estate planning decision-making with Dave Marrison of OSU Extension; farm production economics, including costs of inputs, rent and other items, with Barry Ward of OSU Extension; and farm policy and 2014 Farm Bill implementation with Dr. Carl Zulauf, OSU farm policy specialist.
The cost is $15 for the catered lunch and handouts.
