Two special events are planned this weekend as part of “Memories of Christmas Past” exhibit at the Arms Family Museum, 648 Wick Ave.

On Saturday, children and adults can participate in an ornament-making workshop from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Mahoning Valley Historical Society Carriage House.

The Snow Queen from the movie “Frozen,” also will visit the museum’s hands-on room from 1 to 3 p.m. and will be available for pictures. The Saturday events are included with museum admission.

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will welcome author and historian George Johnson to discuss the 1914 Christmas Truce during World War I at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Johnson is director of gifted services for Southern Local Schools and an adjunct professor of education at Ashland University. He has been collecting since 1971 and has published four books on antique Christmas decorations.

“Memories of Christmas Past,” on display through Jan. 4, fills the seven period rooms of the Arms Family home with rare and vintage decorations such as ornaments, lighting, trees, and toys.

Museum hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and 1 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, but will be closed on Mondays and Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Exhibit admission is $7 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, $5 for children age 3 to 18, and free to children under 3. Proceeds benefit the educational and exhibit programs sponsored by the historical society.
