Beaver Township police: Beware of burglary scam

Beaver Township police want to make people aware of a scam in which a person will distract residents while another person burglarizes their home.

“An individual comes to your door and asks to see your property lines, because they’re going to be cutting down some trees. Once they take you outside, another individual goes inside your home and burglarizes it,” said Lt. Eric Dattilo.

Dattilo said the scam has been attempted twice in the township, and a few times in nearby communities. In one instance a few weeks ago, the burglars were successful. The burglars were turned away from a residence on the 9000 block of Market St. Friday when the homeowner recognized it was a scam.

Police do not have suspects or vehicle descriptions at this time.

Dattilo said residents should call the police if a similar incident happens to them.
