Austintown man victim of internet scam

AUSTINTOWN

Township police are investigating a case of fraud in which a victim lost $2,000 in an internet scam. 

A 21-year-old man told police that in November he found a 2006 Hummer H3 on Craig's List for $2,000 and contacted the seller. 

The seller told the the victim she would set up the sale through EBay Motors and sent an invoice to the victim on Nov. 24, according to a police report filed Thursday. 

The victim then purchased four $500 pre-paid debit cards and sent the PIN numbers via email to the address listed on the invoice. 

The victim has not heard from or been able to contact the seller since then, he told police. 

He provided police copies of the email exchange between him and the suspect.
