The Austintown library hosted its monthly Lego my Library event on Nov. 5, allowing children to come and construct projects out of Legos.
The one-hour event has been done at the library since the beginning of the year.
Librarian Jennifer Kuczek said the event was started to give area children more options for things to do.
“I think just to offer more programming for kids and just to give them something to do on a Wednesday night,” she said.
The library did display the children’s projects, but has since stopped due to the large amount of children who come to the library for after-school events.
Kuczek said the children who attend get to build anything they want.
“Just freestyle Legos, and I pulled some books to help them or give them inspiration,” she said.
There were five tubs of Legos put out on two tables, along with several blue and green Lego mats.
The program on Nov. 5 attracted Daniela Price of North Jackson and her daughter Olivia.
Mother and daughter each built their own project, with Daniela helping Olivia when she needed it.
Kuczek said the program is something to help get the children out of the house and into the library.
“Fun, creativity; get out of the house,” she said. “It’s fun. We had after school here today and so I let some kids play with the Legos. This little boys asked me to please save his structure, so I put his half-built structure in the closet for next week.”
