Warren man indicted in killing of great-uncle
Staff report
WARREN
A Trumbull County grand jury has indicted a 26-year-old city man on charges of aggravated murder, aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery and tampering with evidence in the slaying of his 71-year-old great-uncle, Donald Giovannone.
Marcus A. Honsaker of Reo Court Northwest will be arraigned on the charges at 1 p.m. today in Judge W. Wyatt McKay’s courtroom.
If convicted of aggravated murder, Honsaker could get a life prison sentence without eligibility for parole. The other charges could add more than 20 years to his sentence.
The charges say Honsaker committed the murder while committing or attempting to commit aggravated robbery or aggravated burglary.
Honsaker was arrested Thursday at a residence on Reo Court and taken to the Trumbull County Jail.
The county coroner’s office said Giovannone died of multiple stab wounds.
Police found Giovannone dead in the kitchen of his Atlantic Street Northwest home Nov. 20 and believe he died between Nov. 18 and then, the last time his friends reported speaking to him.
Giovannone’s pickup truck was missing when they found his body, and police said they believe Honsaker took it.
Honsaker also was identified as a suspect in three incidents at relatives’ homes in Bazetta Township and Newton Falls between Nov. 17 and last Wednesday — two of them involving thefts.
