UPDATE | Trumbull jail inmates act up, but they're not going anywhere ...

WARREN

A few Trumbull County jail inmates are facing disciplinary charges, not criminal charges, for creating and participating in a disturbance Tuesday night at the jail.

An inmate became upset because he had not yet received his medication, and other inmates participated in a "silent demonstration," refusing to go into their cells, Sheriff Thomas Altiere said Wednesday afternoon.

The demonstration began about 11:15 p.m.

The incident was not violent, but some inmates sat outside of their cell, and some sat on tables.

About 14 men from the same cell pod were involved, the sheriff said.

The incident lasted about 15 minutes, until officers from several area police departments arrived, at which time the inmates went back into their cells, Altiere said.

This is one of the few times in recent years that corrections officers have called for assistance from local police, but that is the protocol for this type of situation, Altiere said.
