Eagles’ Scott named top player in D-III

The awards just keep rolling in for Larry Scott.
A day after being named Trumbull County Player of the Year, Hubbard High School’s star running back was named The Associated Press All-Ohio Division III Co-Offensive Player of the Year.
Scott, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound senior, shared the honor with Athens quarterback Joe Burrow.
Scott rushed for 2,819 yards and 38 touchdowns in 13 games in leading Hubbard to a second consecutive 10-0 regular season and another playoff appearance. The Eagles finished 12-1, losing only in a regional final against Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary, 26-23.
Scott, the Mahoning Valley’s all-time leading rusher, has committed to Michigan State.
Hubbard offensive tackle Matt Jones, a 6-4, 320-pound senior, joined Scott on the Division III first team. Jones has committed to West Virginia. Jones helped pave the way for the Eagles’ prolific offense.
Poland senior punter Austin Wilson also was a first-team selection. The versatile Wilson averaged 38 yards per punt and rushed for 500 yards and 12 touchdowns and was a three-year starter at outside linebacker. He had 58 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, an interception and a fumble recoveryu.
Hubbard junior running back George Hill, an Ohio State recruit, was a second-team pick. Hill rushed for 1,106 yards on 100 carries and scored 13 touchdowns. He averaged 11.1 yards per rush.
Poland senior linebacker Adam Wollet also made the second team. Wollet, a three-year starter, had 109 tackles in 10 regular-season games. He also had six sacks and two forced fumbles. Wollet also started at tight end.
The Mahoning Valley also was represented on the All-Ohio Division IV team.
Cardinal Mooney linebacker Jordan Jones, a 6-2, 220-pound senior and a Kentucky recruit, was a first-team selection. In eight regular-season games, Jones had 115 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
Lakeview offensive lineman Ben Witt, a 6-3, 235-pound senior, also made the first team.
Cardinal Mooney seniors Julian Thomas and C.J. Amill were third-team selections. Thomas is an offensive lineman and Amill is a running back.
Thomas, a two-way starter at center and defensive tackle, made all the Cardinals’ line calls and graded out at 92 percent for the season. Amill ran for 685 yards and five touchdowns on 120 carries.
The All-Ohio teams for Divisions V, VI and VII are set to be released tonight, along with this season’s Mr. Football.
