Skate party to benefit children

CORTLAND

Just Pizzelles, a Cortland business, will host a holiday skate party from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Cortland Roller Rink to help fund holiday cheer for the 1,100 children that Homes for Kids/Child and Family Solutions serves in Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties.

The night will include cake walks, pictures with Frosty and Scrappy from the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, free kids Identi-Kits, basket raffle and silent auction and a 50-50 raffle.

Admission is $4 per person and the skate rental is $3.50. Take in a new toy, game or gift card and receive $1 off admission.

‘Giving Tree’ under way at Starbucks

Boardman and Austintown Starbucks locations are conducting “Giving Tree” campaigns through Dec. 19 to benefit the patients at Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley this holiday season.

Starbucks customers at both locations, 1247 Boardman-Poland Road in Boardman, or 851 N. Canfield-Niles Road in Austintown, can select a gift tag from the decorated trees in each store. Customers can deliver their donations of unwrapped new books and toys to Starbucks. Monetary donations to benefit the Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley Toy Fund also will be accepted.

Children’s tree to be lighted at hospital

A Children’s Holiday tree lighting and sixth anniversary celebration will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday on the Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley Beeghly campus, 6505 Market St.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature cocoa, cookies and carols and the lighting of the children’s holiday tree at 6 p.m. In addition to a visit from Santa Claus and gifts for all the children, activities will include face painting, crafts, and cookie and ornament decorating.
