Man dies after being struck by a truck

YOUNGSTOWN

A Youngstown man died Friday after being struck by a pickup truck while walking along a North Side street, according to the Mahoning County Coroner’s office.

Robert Bacani, 65, of Dorset Avenue was walking on Logan Avenue near Thornton Avenue when the truck hit him. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Bacani died of multiple injuries of the pelvis and a lacerated liver, the coroner concluded after an autopsy conducted Monday. The case remains under investigation.

Phone call from Santa

Boardman Park will be assisting Santa with a direct line from the North Pole to the community.

Parents who would like their children, age 3 to 8, to receive a phone call from Santa can pick up a form from the park office or download one at www.boardmanpark.com.

Completed forms should be returned to the park office, 375 Boardman-Poland Road, or faxed to 330-726-4562. The deadline for forms is Dec. 15.

Santa will have time for only one phone call per family, so it is important to be home during the scheduled time. There is no fee for the call.

Closed for parade

The public is advised that from 1 to 10 p.m. Friday, East and West Federal street, between Andrews Avenue and Hazel Street, will be closed for the holiday parade and tree lighting.

Tressels to ring bells

Youngstown State University President Jim Tressel and his wife, Ellen, will be ringing the bell for the Salvation Army from noon to 2 p.m. today in front of Barnes and Noble at the Shops at Boardman Park.

Trolley tour of park

YOUNGSTOWN

Mill Creek MetroParks will offer a “Remembering Volney Rogers” trolley tour of the park from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

The tour will give participants a chance to view Volney Rogers’ work in Mill Creek Park, and to visit his grave at Tod Cemetery. The tours are meant to commemorate his life and work, since Rogers was born and died in the first week of December.

Participants must register and pay at Ford Nature Center by today.

The cost for adults is $5 for Mahoning County residents, and $7 for nonresidents. The tour begins at Ford Nature Center.
