Judge temporarily closes Girard restaurant

Judge Peter Kontos of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court has approved a temporary restraining order that requires the restaurant Girard Wok, 44 West Liberty Street, to close until it has corrected fire-code violations.

Girard Wok is also restrained from using its kitchen and/or cooking facilities.

The order will remain in effect for 14 days, until preliminary injunction a hearing at 11 a.m. Dec. 15 in the Trumbull County Courthouse.

The Girard Fire Department filed a request for the temporary restraining order Monday, saying the business failed to address fire-code concerns first raised by the fire department Sept. 22 relating to grease accumulation in the ductwork and hood fans at the restaurant and failure to keep inspection, maintenance and testing records for the fire-protection system.
