Fear the worst for jobs, Medicare now that GOP has full control
Fear the worst for jobs, Medicare now that GOP has full control
Here are a few things you may not know. For instance, did you know that Hallmark cards are made in China? Hershey’s candy is made in Mexico because it chose to build a new plant there. U.S. Colgate toothpaste is also made in Mexico.
So, what does this tell you? It tells me one thing: Corporate greed has gotten out of hand. When these greedy companies decide to move operations to China, Mexico, etc., then American workers pay the price. Until something is done regarding our trade laws and the Republican-led House and Senate stop giving their corporate pals the incentive to move offshore, then we are in for a rough time of it.
Speaking of trade, now that the Republicans will control both houses you can take it to the bank that they will vote to join the TPP (Trans Pacific Partnership), and the sad part of that is that the president is leaning in the same direction.
Everyone knows that NAFTA doesn’t work and CAFTA doesn’t work. So why even think about jumping into another mess? Remember Ross Perot’s statement about that giant sucking sound of our jobs and factories going to Mexico. He was right but these days that sucking sound can be heard in China, South Korea and elsewhere.
Another item of interest is the future of Social Security and Medicare. The Republicans have already told us what they want to do with them. Now that they have control of the House and Senate, when they submit legislation to privatize Social Security and make Medicare a voucher system, just give thanks that we have a Democrat as president who will put the “veto” stamp on any legislation that would weaken or destroy either program.
The Republicans won in a landslide in federal, state and local elections. One question: Did you vote to protect your interests or did you vote against Obama, or did you decide to stay home?
