NYPL Six-run eighth inning not enough for Scrappers against Doubledays

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers scored six runs in the eighth inning Saturday but it wasn’t enough as the Auburn Doubledays won 12-7 at Eastwood Field in New York-Penn League play.

Down 12-1, the Scrappers (32-41) rallied in the eighth inning. Greg Allen was hit by a pitch to start the inning, followed by a home run by Steven Patterson. Leo Castillo walked and Francisco Mejia singled, scoring on a home run by David Armendariz. Austin Fisher drove in Taylor Murphy with a RBI groundout to make the score 12-7.

The Doubledays scored four in the first, one in the second and three in the fifth to start the rout. They added two more in the seventh and eighth innings to seal the victory.

Scrappers starter Juan Santana (1-9) gave up seven runs on seven hits in 42/3 innings.

The Scrappers play the Jamestown Jammers today at 4:05 p.m.
