New pastor at St. Nicholas

YOUNGSTOWN

The Rev. Yanni Verginis is serving as pastor of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 22 N. Walnut St.

He attended at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Ariz., and earned a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering technology in December 1993 from Kent State University.

He worked as a mold designer at Goodyear Tire Co. and then with Bridgestone/Firestone.

In 2001, he was accepted for graduate studies at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, Brookline, Mass., and received a master of divinity degree.

He was ordained by His Eminence, Metropolitan Maximos of Pittsburgh, first to the Diaconate on June 19, 2005, and then to the priesthood Aug. 6, 2005.

His first assignment was as an assistant priest at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Harrisburg, Pa.

In 2010, he was assigned as pastor of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Massillon, Ohio.

Father Yanni’s parents, Eleftherios and Maria Verginis, were Greek immigrants who came to the U.S. in 1969.

They lived in Massillon and Manchester, N.H., then moved to Thessaloniki, Greece, where they lived for nine years. They returned to the U.S. in 1985.

Father Yanni is married to the former Mindy Kassiani Butler, and they have five children.

New pastor at Church of God

NEW SPRINGFIELD

Jonathan Holloway is the new pastor of New Springfield Church of God, 3649 E. Garfield Road.

Pastor Holloway, originally from Lake Wales, Fla., attended Anderson and Warner universities.

Previously, he and his wife, Jennifer, lived in Massillon, Ohio, where he served in the pastorate for 16 years.

His first service will be at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 7 followed by life classes.

Author to speak at Pa. church

NEW CASTLE, PA.

The Spiritual Path Church, 2041 Moravia St., will host Dr. Raymond Moody, author of “Life After Life,” in a program, “On Matters of Life and Death,” from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 20.

There will be a question and answer session and book signing after the talk. Hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Tickets are $50. Reservations are required. Seating is limited.
