Man charged with resisting arrest

YOUNGSTOWN

A man who police tried to pull over about 11:10 p.m. Thursday for a suspended license faces additional charges after police say he ran from them.

Officers tried to pull over a car driven by 25-year-old Maurice Hasley of Youngstown for a suspended license on LaBelle Avenue near Southern Boulevard but he drove away and led them to the parking lot of a 3726 Market St. fast-food restaurant.

When police approached his car, he would not let officers handcuff him after he was told he was under arrest, and he had to be taken to the ground to be cuffed because he would not cooperate.

Hasley was taken to the Mahoning County jail on charges of resisting arrest, obstructing official business and driving under suspension.

2 drug arrests

Police made two drug arrests Thursday.

In the first block of Brooklyn Avenue about 6 p.m., officers stopped Tracy Shale, 42, because he was a suspect in a recent theft at a nearby Southern Boulevard business. He had two bags of suspected crack cocaine, a bag of suspected marijuana and a $10 bill from the business, reports said. He was booked into the Mahoning County jail on charges of possession of drugs- cocaine, possession of drugs-heroin and theft.

Just before 7 p.m. on Erie Street, police pulled over a car driven by 42-year-old Jessi L. Henderson Jr. for loud music. Reports said Henderson allowed an officer to search him, and the officer found a bag of suspected marijuana. He was given a citation for possession of marijuana and released.

Rabies vaccine project to begin

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown City Health District will begin this year’s Raccoon Oral Rabies Vaccine project Wednesday. Completion should occur by the end of September, weather permitting.

The project’s goal is to immunize thousands of wild raccoons by placing baits containing rabies vaccine throughout the city.

With support from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service’s Wildlife Services program, approximately 3,000 baits will be spread throughout the city this year.

A press release says immunizing the raccoon population helps to reduce the number of rabid animals and the number of cases of human and pet exposure to rabies.

For information concerning the ORV program, visit www.aphis.usda.gov/wildlife-damage/rabies or contact the Youngstown City Health District at 330-743-3333.
