Walking in street lands man in jail on drug charges

YOUNGSTOWN

Police say they found four pills and a bag of crack cocaine on a man they stopped to question for walking in the roadway about 6:11 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of East Judson Avenue.

Montrail Berry, 26, was taken to the Mahoning County jail on charges of possession of drugs and possession of crack cocaine. He also was issued a citation for walking in the road when a passable sidewalk was available.

Berry was spotted by a pair of vice squad officers on patrol. He gave them permission to search him, reports said.

Lake Milton man nabbed on drug, assault charges

A Lake Milton man was arrested on several warrants after he was spotted by officers on a South Side street just after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

An officer on patrol wrote in a report that he spotted 33-year-old Frank Howley at Kent and Neilson avenues and went to question him because he knew there were several warrants out for his arrest.

When Howley was searched, the officer found two pills in his pocket.

He was booked into the Mahoning County jail on a charge of possession of drugs and on warrants charging him with receiving stolen property, assault, two traffic offenses and driving under suspension.

No signs of shooting

YOUNGSTOWN

Police say they found no evidence of a shooting at a home in the 1800 block of Elm Street after being called there about 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

A man at a home there told officers someone shot at him and missed, but police searched for any evidence of a shooting and found no bullet holes, spent shell casings or spent cases.

The man was taken to a hospital because he was “worked up,” a spokeswoman at the scene said.

Mill Creek road closings announced

Part of West Golf Drive in Mill Creek Park from the Mill Creek Golf Course to Shields Road will be closed to all traffic, including pedestrians and cyclists, beginning Tuesday.

The road will be closed to undergo storm drainage pipe and asphalt paving work.

The Mill Creek Golf Course will remain open and can be accessed from the entrance on U.S. Route 224. The project is expected to take between six and eight weeks.

Boardman police plan heavy patrols for holiday weekend

The Boardman Police Department will be supplementing its regular patrols with high-visibility enforcement patrols over Labor Day weekend, according to a police department press release.

Officers will be targeting all violators for aggressive and distracted driving offenses, operating a vehicle while under the influence and seat belt usage.

The enforcement effort will include increased sobriety checkpoints, roving and saturation patrols and other measures.

The increased enforcement effort is part of the department’s participation in the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign to crack down on impaired driving, in partnership with state and local law enforcement and highway safety officials.
