Girls tennis claims wins

The Canfield girls tennis team remained unbeaten, defeating Poland and Canton Central Catholic by 5-0 scores and Lake 4-1. Spearheading the Cardinals was the sterling play of the doubles teams of Bri Slemons and Emily Hofsess, Paige Modarelli and Lany Slemons, and Emily Ellis and Marina Sturgeon. At the 12th Annual Cardinal Doubles Classic, Canfield finished behind perennial state tennis powers Upper Arlington, Magnificat and Hathaway Brown.

Canfield to celebrate victorious Little League teams

The city and township of Canfield will jointly host a ceremony honoring the four winning 2014 Little League teams from Canfield. The ceremony will take place on Sept. 6 at 3 p.m. on the Green in Canfield, followed by a parade of the teams from the Green to McCune Baseball Park on Shields Road in Canfield. The Canfield Baseball Club will then host a community celebration, complete with a DJ and food. Anyone from the community is invited. The winning teams are the Canfield 12U boys district team, who won the state tournament and advanced to the final four of the Little League Regional Tournament in Indianapolis; the Canfield 10U girls district team, who won the state tournament; the Canfield 10U boys district team, who won the state tournament; and the Canfield 12U girls district team, who won the District 2 tournament.

Carpenter has hole in one

The Canfield girls golf team defeated Howland with a score of 165-228 on Aug. 22 at Diamond Back Golf Course. During the match, Kaci Carpenter claimed a hole in one on the third hole, a par 3. Team scores included Christina Cooper (37), Kerra Loomis (41), Kaci Carpenter (41) and Gillian Cerimele (46).

Girls defeat Edgewood

The Canfield girls varsity volleyball team defeated Edgewood 3-0 with scores of 25-13, 25-9 and 25-17 on Aug. 20. Morgan Leonald led the team with 12 kills while Janie Rafoth led the team with 29 assists and 15 points. Leading the team in blocks were Maddie Johns and Darby Hepola with 4 each.

Girls golf takes victory

The Canfield girls golf team defeated Austintown Fitch with a score of 156-199 at Deer Creek Golf Course in Hubbard on Aug. 19. Top players for Canfield were Kerra Loomis (37), Christina Cooper (38), Gillian Cerimele (38) and Kaci Carpenter (43).

Girls tennis has 5-0 winning streak

The Canfield girls’ tennis team has begun defense of their All-American League Championship with four straight 5-0 wins over Boardman, Howland, Austintown Fitch and Lakeview. The junior varsity team also has an unblemished record. Top players for the Cardinals so far have been seniors Bri Slemons, Emily Ellis, Marina Sturgeon; juniors Ashley Kaleel and Paige Modarelli; sophomores Hannah Cianciola, Taya El-Hayek, Emily Hofsess, Lany Slemons, Mia Hanlon; freshmen Grace Barrett, Nicole Grimm and Frankie Santon. Senior Megan Kulisek is on the team for the first time this season.

Reserved football seats on sale

Reserved seat tickets for the Canfield High School varsity football season are on sale now in the school’s athletic office weekdays from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. The five home game ticket packages cost $40 each. For more information, call 330-533-5341.

In order to get teams and players the recognition they deserve, we want to showcase them in our pages. We can only do that if you commit to sending us game reports and photos each week. If you send it, it will get in.
