Campbell traffic stop leads to drug arrest

CAMPBELL

Campbell police arrested Terence L. Thomas, 36 of Youngstown, at 6:32 p.m. Wednesday for possession of drugs and driving under suspension.

Police also arrested Willie F. Smith IV, 40 of Youngstown, at the same time for possession of drugs and tampering with the evidence.

Police observed a black Nissan driving 10 mph above the 25 mph speed limit close to Fairview Avenue and pulled the car over on a Fairview Avenue driveway. Both the driver, Thomas, and passenger, Smith, jumped out the vehicle and ran to the side of the house. Smith appeared to throw something in a trash can by the house.

Officers ordered them back to the vehicle and identified the two men. Officers arrested Thomas after seeing his license was under suspension. The passenger was on an active warrant out of Columbiana County. Officers searched the trash can by the house and found 1.7 grams of heroin on top, in plain sight. Smith allegedly threw the heroin in the trash, a report said. Smith was arrested for possessing heroin and tampering with evidence.

No bond was set due to the felony charge.
