WARREN

An art show that has been one year in the making will take place Friday at a downtown studio, and a film chronicling the show will be released in October.

“Two Stories, One Story,” featuring works by Warren artists Aaron Chine and Thad Minnick, will be Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. at Chine’s studio at 160 N. Park Ave. It will occupy two floors and will include paintings, sculpture, murals and installations.

Nashville musician and Warren native Dennis Drummond will perform on the third floor during the show, while area musician Dan Vankirk will play on the second.

Admission is free, but there is a $50 deposit required to purchase art. Hors d’oeurves will be served.

A pre-show party will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lime Tree, 187 W. Market St., and an after- party will begin at 10 p.m. at the Horseshoe, 206 E. Market St.

A documentary film that follows Chine and Minnick for the nearly one year in which they prepared for the show, titled “Behind the Brush,” will be screened at 7 p.m. Oct. 8 at Encore Cinema in Niles. “Behind the Brush” was made by Tom Ross and Brad Kolasinski of Clear Choice Creative in Warren.

Chine talked about the effort that went into the art show and the film.

“Almost a year ago, myself and fellow tattooer-artist-friend Thad Minnick decided to put on the biggest art show the area had seen,” he said. “After going to an artist retreat in New Mexico together and painting with some of the biggest names in the art game, we were motivated to do just that.”

The show will be in Chine’s art studio, Guerilla Gallery, which is a former dance studio on North Park Avenue on Courthouse Square.

The effort of Chine and Minnick inspired a pair of local filmmakers to document it.

“When we decided to put on a show of this magnitude, our friends Tom [Ross] and Brad [Kolasinski] decided to document our journey in a feature-length documentary,” said Chine.

“The film tells the whole story, how we grew up with interviews of our families, how we met, our day-to-day lives with interviews of our tattoo clients, and what all goes into putting on an art show. The cameras followed us for almost an entire year and shows all the struggles and triumphs of two friends trying to do something big in a small town.”

Clear Choice Creative has created a website for the film — behindthebrushfilm.com — that includes a trailer and a link to preorder tickets to the premier or purchase a copy. The 80-minute documentary contains adult language.
