Man faces theft charges in stolen gas cards

BOARDMAN

Township police arrested a Youngstown man Wednesday on theft charges, accused of selling inactive Shell Gas gift cards at Family Dollar, 4996 Market St.

Desmond Clark, 32, was arrested at the Family Dollar location on two theft warrants.

According to a police report filed Wednesday, a woman reported that a man approached her in the Family Dollar parking lot and asked for a ride, offering to sell her gas station gift cards as payment.

She gave the man and a female companion a ride, and they then sold the victim three $25 Shell Gas cards for $40.

The victim discovered the cards were inactive.

Township police then discovered that all of the $25 Shell Gas cards had been stolen from Family Dollar.

Clark was arrested after another person reported that Clark tried to sell him gift cards at Family Dollar.

He was arrested on the warrants, and was charged with attempted theft by deception in addition to the other two charges.

Clark is set to appear in court Thursday afternoon.
