Mahoning County's first roundabout opens in Boardman

BOARDMAN

Mahoning County's first roundabout, at Mathews and Sheridan roads, is now open.

Officials from Mahoning County, the city of Struthers, Boardman and Poland townships, and businesses involved in the project officially opened the roundabout with a ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning, and traffic is now moving.

County Engineer Patrick Ginnetti said the roundabout will decrease congestion in the area, reduce the number of accidents and reduce accidents that result in serious injuries.

"The project was completed on time, and 10 percent under budget, which was outstanding," Ginnetti said. "It was a recipe for success. We're proud of it, and we're looking forward to getting people moving."

The intersection of Mathews and Sheridan had been closed since June 16.
