Local fire departments receive federal funds

YOUNGSTOWN — Two fire departments in Trumbull County and one from Mahoning County were awarded federal grant money, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, announced today.

In Trumbull County, the Bazetta Fire Department will receive $181,413, which will be used for operations and safety, while the Eagle Joint Fire District, which encompasses the city of Hubbard and Hubbard Township, will receive $128,970 for vehicle acquisition.

In Mahoning County, the Beaver Township Fire Department was awarded $4,090 for operations and safety, Brown announced in the press release.

The money is from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency Assistance to Firefighters Grants program.

Money for operations and safety includes funds for training, facility upgrades and modifications and supplies.

In the vehicle-acquisition category, funds can be used to obtain ladder trucks, tankers, rescue vehicles, ambulances and other vehicles.
