MINERAL RIDGE

The remodeled and reconstructed Mineral Ridge High School and Seaborn Elementary School will be formally unwrapped in ceremonies planned for Sept. 9 and 10.

Both buildings are nearing completion after the high school was expanded to a junior high and high school for grades seven to 12.

A formal ribbon-cutting to open the renovated and remodeled Mineral Ridge High School will take place Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. A ribbon-cutting at Seaborn Elementary School is set for 6 p.m. Sept. 10.

The Weathersfield school board recently approved a one-year contract with the Mahoning County Educational Service Center to operate a preschool for local children.

The district has been having local children, some of them classified as “special needs,” in preschool through the Trumbull County Educational Service Center, but students had to be bused to whatever location was chosen for classes, such as Warren or Lordstown.

The new preschool program will be at Seaborn Elementary School.

On average, participants are 3-year-old special-needs students, but the goal is to mix even proportions of regular and special-needs students, Superintendent Damon Dohar said.

The new program will be only for Weathersfield residents.

In other business at its recent meeting, the board accepted a donation of $1,000 from the Class of 1963 to the scholarship fund.
