New headquarters for Veterans’ Outreach

liberty

The National Headquarters of Veterans’ Outreach has been in Struthers since 2001, but the organization bought a larger building in Liberty to provide better services to veterans. The Liberty facility has triple the space, but must be renovated to meet compliance standards. The nonprofit organization also has four full-service offices in other states.

Veterans’ Outreach is looking for sponsors to become part of the project with monetary help, services, building materials and volunteers. The organization plans to move by the end of September. Information about specific needs is available by calling 330-755-5792, through email to jely@veteransoutreach.com or via postal mail to 524 Youngstown-Poland Road, Struthers, OH 44471. A one-time, tax-deductible donation also may be made via cellphone by texting VET to 52000.

Struthers school official adds duties

STRUthers

The Struthers school board announced Pete Pirone as the district’s assistant superintendent. Pirone is also the district’s middle-school principal. The board amended Pirone’s contract to add the duty.

Pirone has worked in Struthers since 2000 as a teacher, attendance officer, coach and principal. As assistant superintendent, he plans to focus on curriculum, technology, STEM education, teacher-evaluation leader and testing.

Renee English, supervisor of community engagement for the Mahoning County Educational Service Center, said Pirone did not get a raise with the new position. She said he will continue to make $85,625.

“He is working under his current contract,” she said. “He’s paid as middle school principal. They were excited he was willing to do this without changing funds.”
