Eastern Gateway's Meeks announces retirement

YOUNGSTOWN

Eastern Gateway Community College President Laura Meeks has announced retirement to college trustees and employees.

Meeks will have completed 16 years of service to the college when she retires July 31.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I acknowledge and extend our sincere thank you for the invaluable contributions and accomplishments Dr. Laura Meeks has made throughout her exemplary service to Eastern Gateway Community College,” John Gilmore, trustees chairman, said in a news release.

“President Meeks’ vision and leadership has led to the significant growth and development for the college and the communities it serves. I thank her for her dedication to the college. It will be difficult to replace her dedication and leadership because we have made great strides in improving student success and moving the college forward.”

Meeks became president of then-Jefferson Community College June 1, 1999. Ten years later, the college expanded into Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, becoming Eastern Gateway.
