Council of Negro Women installs Britt as president

YOUNGSTOWN

Sandra Fulton Britt was recently installed as president of the Youngstown Section of the National Council of Negro Women Inc. for the 2014-2015 year, which will begin in September.

Dr. Carolyn O’Neil conducted the installation ceremony at the McGuffey Centre. Britt is a lifelong Youngstown resident and has been a member of NCNW the past 13 years. She is employed as a deputy clerk with the Municipal Clerk’s Office in the City of Youngstown. She resides in Youngstown with her husband, Mark, and her son, Matthew.

Also assuming duties as officers were Tuana Vinson, first vice president; Angela Pickett, second vice president; Beverly Willis, treasurer; Felicia Alexander, recording secretary; Diane Hyshaw, assistant recording secretary; Virginia Fannings, financial secretary; Audrey Gillian, corresponding secretary; Jennifer Cousin Miller, chaplain; Beatrice Dixon, parliamentarian; and Karen Jackson Cook, historian.

The Youngstown Section of NCNW regularly supports programs that benefit senior citizens, women’s health and youth programs.

At its recent Women of Distinction Luncheon, 21 WFMJ TV reporter Michelle Nicks and Madonna Chism-Pinkard, director of community relations for WFMJ/WBCB TV received the Bethune-Height Award for their excellence in the communications field.

Dr. Cryshanna Jackson Leftwich, associate political science professor at Youngstown State University, spoke at that event. NCNW also participates in the Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes, McGuffey Centre’s Annual Baby Shower, the Living Longer, Living Smarter Workshop, and donations to Protestant Family Services. It also sponsors the Hats Off to Seniors Christmas Luncheon.

NCNW was founded in 1935 by Mary McLeod Bethune, and it serves as an umbrella for 39 national organizations with a membership of 4 million women.
