Zimmer’s three hits help lift Scrappers

BATAVIA, N.Y.
Bradley Zimmer had three hits and Casey Shane picked up the win as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers defeated the Batavia Muckdogs 5-1 at Dwyer Stadium Saturday in New-York Penn League play.
Zimmer finished with three RBIs, two coming on a home run in the first inning off of Muckdogs starter Jorgan Cavanerio.
In the bottom of the inning, the Muckdogs tied the game at one on a RBI fielder’s choice Brad Haynal.
In the fourth inning, David Armendariz singled with one out. Martin Cervenka doubled home Armendariz to give the Scrappers a 3-1 lead.
The Scrappers added a run in the fifth with a RBI single by Zimmer, driving in Greg Allen.
In the eighth, Leo Castillo drove in Zimmer with a RBI single giving them a 5-1 lead.
Shane, who started for the Scrappers, pitched five innings, giving up five hits and one unearned run. He struck out two and walked none.
The Scrappers bullpen pitched well, throwing four innings of scoreless ball. Edward Estrella, Dominic DeMasi and J.P. Feyereisen allowed only one hit in the effort.
Allen had two runs scored.
The Scrappers finish the three game set at Batavia today at 1:05 p.m.
