YOUNGSTOWN

Ryan Emans, a senior wide receiver for Bowling Green (Ohio) High, verbally committed to Youngstown State on Saturday.

Emans (6-1, 180) caught 31 passes for 565 yards and seven TDs last year, earning first team all-conference honors.

YSU selling tickets for seven home games

YOUNGSTOWN

Season tickets for YSU’s seven home football games range from $78 for general admission to $102 for reserved. Chairback seats ($175) are available to Penguin Club members.

Individual game tickets are $13 for general admission ($15 on game day) and $17 for reserved ($19 on game day). Youth 12-and-under are $6 for general admission ($7 on game day) and $8 reserved ($9 on game day).

Indians place Gomes on 7-day concussion DL

CLEVELAND

The Cleveland Indians placed catcher Yan Gomes on the seven-day concussion disabled list Saturday. Gomes was hit in the mask Thursday by a deflected pitch.

To replace him on the roster, the Indians acquired catcher Chris Gimenez from Texas for future considerations.

Meram’s goal, assist, lead Crew past Houston

COLUMBUS

Justin Meram had a goal and an assist to lead the Columbus Crew over the Houston Dynamo 3-0 on Saturday night. Meram opened the scoring for the Crew (8-8-9) off a defensive miscue in the 35th minute. Adam Bedell made it 2-0 with a header in the 59th minute and Aaron Schoenfeld notched the third goal for the Crew five minutes later.

Czech Rosol wins Winston-Salem Open

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.

Lukas Rosol got a few big breaks on his way to the Winston-Salem Open final, and a few more in winning his first ATP Tour title of the year. The Czech rallied from a set down Saturday to beat Poland’s Jerzy Janowicz 3-6, 7-6 (3), 7-5 in the championship match.

Kvitova takes second Connecticut Open title

Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova appears ready to make a run at her second Grand Slam title this summer. The No. 4 ranked Czech star dominated Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia 6-4, 6-2 Saturday to win the Connecticut Open, her second title in New Haven in the past three years.
