Mahoning Valley hosts 2015 police, fire games

Staff report

The Mahoning Valley has been selected to host the 2015 Ohio Police & Fire Games.

There will be more than 700 competitors from Ohio and other states and countries who will come to the Youngstown-Warren area.

The games will offer more than 35 events that will take place June 14-19, primarily at Youngstown State University and Mill Creek MetroParks.

This is an annual event that takes place in a different host city each year and is organized by local first responders and supporting organizations.

The purpose of the games is to support the physical and mental fitness of Ohio’s active and retired law-enforcement and firefighter personnel by promoting the concept of physical fitness and sport within their respective communities, according to a press release.

The events offered include team-ball sports, shooting, golf, weightlifting, and more. They will be coordinated by the Mahoning Valley Chief’s of Police Association, comprising law-enforcement leadership from Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.

All first-responders are eligible to compete including law enforcement, firefighters and military.
