Ham radio classes are being offered

AUSTINTOWN

Western Reserve Amateur Radio Club will conduct classes beginning in September for the entry-level Technicians Class license.

Classes will be from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday evenings starting Sept. 10 through Oct. 15 at ITT Tech, 1030 N. Meridian Road.

There is no cost, but you must register by Aug. 29 and buy the Technicians Class Book by Gordon West, WB6NOA.

Lighted boat parade will be featured

LISBON

Guilford Lake Civic Association is announcing its annual Lighted Boat Parade for Aug. 30.

Boats can be decorated with any type of lighting and should line up at 8 p.m. at the public swim beach on Teegarden Road.

The public is welcome to watch the parade and enjoy the bonfire afterward.

Take your own chairs, drinks, hot dogs, buns and snacks.

Boats can pull in on the beach after the parade to enjoy the bonfire.

Rusyn-Slovak picnic planned at church

The Carpatho-Rusyn Vatra Rusyn and Slovak picnic will take place from 2 to 8 p.m. Sept. 13 at Infant Jesus of Prague Church, 7754 South Ave.

Admission is free, and all are welcome, rain or shine.

At 2 p.m. the kitchen opens will such offerings as pirogi, stuffed cabbage, cabbage and dumplings, kielbasi and sauerkraut, and bacon fry (slanina).

A Byzantine Liturgy will take place at 6 p.m.

There also will be music, genealogy and sales tables.

Bike run to benefit stricken fire captain

The McKinley Heights Mutual Benefit Association and V-Twin Cruisers MC will present Pikes & Bikes, a benefit for Capt. Raymond Knepper, on Sept. 14 at Weathersfield Fire Station 40, 2229 Gardenland Ave.

Knepper, a veteran of the McKinley Heights and Weathersfield fire departments, has been battling bladder cancer.

The poker run will open registration at 10 a.m.; last bike out will be at 11:30.

The cost is $12 per rider and $8 per passenger.

A pasta dinner will be served from 2 to 6 p.m. at a cost of $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12. There will be a 50-50 raffle, basket auction and ribbon sale.

Vendors needed for fall market

CANFIELD

The Junior Women’s League of Canfield is recruiting vendors for the 45th annual Fall Market from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 20 on the Canfield Village Green.

Those who have home-based businesses or arts and crafts merchandise or are nonprofit organizations are welcome.

Proceeds will benefit the community and provide scholarships to local high school students.
