Chamber cancels YOUNG conference

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber last week canceled the Youngstown, Ohio Utica Natural Gas conference and trade show that was scheduled to take place Sept. 11.

The cancellation is due to a decline in participation.

A YOUNG Golf Outing and Casino Night event Sept. 10 will go on as planned.

Chamber staff notified all conference and trade-show participants, but anyone who registered for the events and has not been contacted should call Jennifer Mascardine at 330-744-2131, ext. 12 .

Ohio Oil, Gas Energy hosts workshops

YOUNGSTOWN

Science teachers and administrators from three schools in Mahoning County attended one of two teacher workshops hosted by the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program in June and July.

OOGEEP provides the workshops to help teachers connect students to the energy industry through science education.

Richard Scarsella from the Choffin Career and Technical Center and Joyce Hilman and Dennis Malaska from Youngstown Christian High School participated in the workshops.

DiRusso’s to toast 50 years at the fair

The Italian sausage company, DiRusso’s Real Italian Sausage Concessions, will be celebrating its 50th year at the 168th Canfield Fair.

Quaker Steak opens new site in Nebraska

Quaker Steak & Lube Æ, known for its wings and more than 25 signature sauces, opened in Grand Island, Neb., this month. The newest location opened Aug. 13.

The restaurant created close to 100 jobs for the area and is the first Quaker Steak & Lube Æ location in Nebraska.

The new Grand Island Lube encompasses a 10,000-square-foot design while accommodating seating for more than 460 people.

The location also has three bars and an enclosed patio.

Company employees join service day

CLEVELAND

Members of the Akron, Cleveland, Milwaukee and Youngstown offices of Cohen and Company and Cohen Fund Adult Services participated in a companywide service day Aug. 1.

Employees received a paid day off to provide service to others. This year, more than 100 individuals participated.

Employees of the Akron and Cleveland offices volunteered at Hines Hill Center in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and Youngstown employees spent the day at Fellows Riverside Gardens at Mill Creek MetroParks.

Milwaukee employees worked at Schlitz Audubon Nature Center.
