Warren police investigating homicide in quiet northwest side neighborhood

Police are investigating a homicide that occurred on a quiet northwest side street.
Officers found Dominic Bufano, 55, of 1341 Bingham Ave. NW, dead in a pool of blood in his home when they responded to his mother’s 911 call at 7:25 p.m. Thursday.
His mother, Donatina Bufano, 85, told police she “heard a disturbance in the house” just before she called, said Lt. Dan Mason, who said he thinks Dominic Bufano was in the basement.
Dominic was not a gunshot victim, but it’s not known what killed him, Mason said. An autopsy, planned for Friday afternoon, might shed more light on that, Mason said, adding that police have no suspects.
The results of the autopsy won’t be available until Monday, the coroner’s office said.
Meanwhile, one woman living not far away described the Bingham Avenue neighborhood where the death occurred as “quiet.”
“That’s too much for it to be right up the street,” said Antoinette Carmichael as she waited with her children to catch the school bus Friday morning at the nearby Stonegate Place Apartments.
“I thought it was a good neighborhood over that way,” she said, pointing toward Bingham. “I thought it was a fairly all-right neighborhood. It’s always quiet.”
The 1300 block of Bingham Avenue has small, well-kept homes. It is about a block west of the vacant former St. Joseph Riverside hospital on Tod Avenue Northwest.
A man pulling out of the driveway of a home nearby the Bufano residence said Dominic Bufano “seemed like an all-right kid,” but he had only “met him a time or two.”
Court documents indicate he worked in maintenance at a Tod Avenue Northwest nursing home for at least five years in the early 2000s.
This is the fifth homicide in Warren this year but the second one in August. Police have made no arrests in the death of Mitchell Pruitt, 50, who was found shot to death of multiple gunshots at his home at 1570 Deerfield Street Southwest Aug. 5.
