BOARDMAN

Holiday gift-givers will be able to do their shopping at a new Jared The Galleria of Jewelry that is under construction on Market Street near Southern Park Mall, according to representatives of the national jewelry store and Cocca Development Ltd., which owns the plaza in which the store is being built.

“I can confirm that our Jared location at Fashion Square is set for a winter/pre-holiday opening,” said Frank Cirillo, a spokesman for Jared, in an email. “We are always looking at opportunities to bring the Jared experience into new communities, and we are very excited to be opening this new location in Boardman.”

Construction on the building began a few weeks ago, after the demolition of the Family Christian store and a vacant part of the plaza in April.

The project is being handled by V&R Construction Inc. It is a more than $1 million project, according to a previous Vindicator report.

The new store will be in a stand-alone building near the intersection of Market Street and U.S. Route 224.

“They’re going to clean up the site really nicely,” said township Zoning Inspector Sarah Gartland. “They were easy to work with and really did everything we asked for.”

The zoning department asked Cocca Development, which handled the development process and is handling the construction as general contractor, to remove a parking area that was in an ODOT right-of-way and to put in as many plantings as possible.

She said they will fix up the parking lot, close two entrances to the parking lot and instead have one entrance in the center, install landscape islands and add an underground drainage system and a sidewalk.

“They did some clever designs and were able to meet our requirements and still have what Jared needed,” Gartland said.

“As the leading off-mall destination specialty retail jewelry chain in the U.S., Jared houses five times the selection of a conventional jewelry store, features some of the most sought-after brands in the industry and offers a unique shopping environment,” Cirillo said. He said shoppers can expect to see brands such as Tolkowsky, Leo Diamond, Neil Lane, Lois Hill, Pandora and Movado, among others, in the Jared store.

Jared, which is a division of Sterling Jewelers Inc., is based in Akron. Signet Jewelers is its parent company.

Cirillo said those interested in employment opportunities at the new location should visit www.sterlingcareers.com.
