The First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown will begin its ninth season with a talk by John Angotti on Sept. 4 at Antone’s Banquet Centre, 8578 Market St.

Angotti is a Christian music artist and missionary who travels throughout the world providing inspirational music and faith witness through concerts, workshops, retreats, missions, conferences and worship. He will speak on “Spreading the Word Through Music.”

CORTLAND

Christine McLean of Carrollton will be featured at the Heritage Gospel Jubilee at 7 p.m. Friday at the Jericho Center, 2878 Warren-Meadville Road. The event will also be a “Sundae on Friday” with an ice-cream social after the concert.

Also performing will be the Golden Street Singers from Farmdale.

Choir at the fair

CANFIELD

The Canfield Fair ecumenical worship service will be at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 31 at the stage near the grandstand/concourse.

Singers are invited to assemble at 9 for a choir rehearsal followed by the presentation of two anthems during the church service.

Participants will be reimbursed their admission fee for that day. Musical direction and additional special music will be presented by Tom and Kelly Scurich, assisted by accompanist Adrienne Lesnett.

Holy Bible Church, 54 St. Louis Ave., will install the Rev. Ellis Payne IV as pastor at 4 p.m. Aug. 31 at Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 646 Lakewood Ave. Speaker will be Pastor James Bowie.

Christian Bible Baptist Church, 2369 Oak Street Ext., will mark its 37th anniversary during a gathering at 4 p.m. Sunday with Pastor Kevin Crum and the congregation of New Hope Baptist Church as guests. Keith A. Neal is pastor and Sharon Luke, chairperson.

Pastor named

YOUNGSTOWN

Bishop George V. Murry has announced, effective Sept. 1, the Rev. Christopher Luoni will be pastor of St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown.

Father Luoni was ordained May 28, 2005, by Bishop Thomas Tobin in St. Columba Cathedral. He has served as parochial vicar at Holy Family Church in Poland and as pastor of the University Parish Newman Center in Kent.

Currently he is vocation director for the Diocese of Youngstown, a position he will retain.

The Rev. Stephen Popovich, previous pastor, was injured in a car accident Nov. 13, 2013, and remains in rehabilitation.

Monks visiting

NEW CASTLE, PA.

Spiritual Path Church, 2041 Moravia St. Ext., is hosting monks of the Gaden Shartse Dokhang Monastery on their Compassion Tour. The monks will conduct a healing ritual at 7 p.m. Aug. 30.

From 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 31, they will create a sand mandala and conduct a singing bowl meditation at 7. There also will be a children’s station to make sand mandalas.

The monks will conduct a chant for world peace at 4 p.m. Sept. 1.

A $20 donation is recommended for the daily events. Arts and crafts will be sold.
