BOARDMAN

Township police arrested a man on a child-endangering charge Thursday after officers observed an infant alone in the back seat of a vehicle in the parking lot of BuyBacks, 813 Boardman-Poland Road.

Phillip Bolender, 24, of Youngstown was arrested after police located him in the store and discovered he was intoxicated, according to a police report.

Police said the 6-month-old infant was OK.

Police also cited Bolender for disorderly conduct.

He is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Mahoning County Area Court.

Group to meet

YOUNGSTOWN

The Brownlee Woods Neighborhood Association meets Thursday at Faith Community Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd. The evening will begin with refreshments/social time at 6 p.m. and the business meeting will start at 6:30.

The speaker will be a representative from Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. to inform members of programs available through YNDC.

Councilman John R. Swierz, D-7th, will attend to discuss issues concerning the Brownlee Woods area and to inform the residents of upcoming events throughout the city. All meetings are open to the public.

The Poland Village zoning appeals board meeting scheduled for Thursday, a continuation of a July 31 meeting on the application of 4M Company, has been canceled and will be rescheduled.

Endorsement

WARREN

Greg Hicks, Warren law director, has endorsed Democrat David Pepper to be Ohio attorney general, according to a press release from the Pepper campaign.

“With a statewide heroin crisis spinning out of control, we need an attorney general who understands and stands up for cities like Warren,” Hicks said. “David Pepper is a tough and experienced leader who will be a true partner in keeping our community safe.”

Hicks, a former police officer and retired Army Reserve lieutenant colonel, is in his sixth term as law director, which handles civil and criminal matters.

Guest speaker

WARREN

First Baptist Church of Warren, 3217 Surrey Road, will host Pastor Ernie Depasquale as a special guest at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. The church is located in Mahoning Valley Hope Center.

He is co-host of “Crossing Paths” television ministry and host of three radio shows. Pastor Ernie is a local physician who answered God’s call into ministry. A fellowship will follow.

School open house

STRUTHERS

Struthers Elementary School invites parents with children in first through fourth grade to the school’s open house Wednesday. Session one starts at 5:30 p.m. and is for parents of third- and fourth-graders. Session two starts at 6:15 p.m. and is for parents with children in various grades and classes, and session three starts at 6:45 p.m. and is for parents first- and second-graders.

Parents of kindergarten students were notified by mail in mid-August of their child’s fall screening appointment. Kindergarten orientation for parents and students is Sept. 5. Students with last names beginning A through L meet at 9 a.m. in the Struthers Elementary School cafeteria and students with last names M through Z meet at 12:30 p.m. Kindergarten starts Sept. 8.
