Crosscutters edge Scrappers

WILLIAMSPORT, PA.

Three Williamsport Crosscutters pitchers combined to scatter six hits in defeating the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, 2-1, on Thursday.

Relief pitcher Calvin Rayburn (2-1) earned the win when the Crosscutters scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

With the score tied 1-1, Deivi Grullon led off with a walk off Scrappers reliever Cortland Cox (0-1). Jan Hernandez sacrificed pinch runner Chasse Harris to second base.

Robinson Torres singled to left field to score Harris and end the game.

In the fourth inning, the Scrappers (27-37) took a 1-0 lead. Ordomar Valdez led off the frame with a bunt single. Leo Castillo, who had four RBIs in Tuesday’s 9-1 victory, singled to send Valdez to third base. Francisco Mejia grounded into a fielder’s choice that allowed Valdez to score.

The Crosscutters (30-35) tied the game in the seventh inning. Grullon tripled to lead off the inning and scored on Hernandez’s single.

D’Vone McClure led the Scrappers offense with three singles.
