The Canfield High School Cardinal Pride Marching Band is gearing up to host its 40th Annual Canfield Show of Bands at Canfield High School Cardinal Stadium at 7 p.m. on Aug. 26.

“The Canfield Show of Bands is a tradition that is entering its 40th year. For the students, this is an opportunity for them to showcase their skills and talents in their home community. For the parents and show audience, this event provides an evening of musical entertainment for all ages at a minimal cost. And for the directors, it means continuing a tradition that is one of the area’s oldest and most prestigious band nights,” said Traci DeCapua, Canfield Show of Bands chairperson.

The following bands, along with the 146 members of the Canfield Pride Marching Band, will take part in this year’s show of bands: Austintown Fitch, Boardman, Champion, Poland, Struthers and Youngstown State University.

According to DeCapua, the event is a fundraiser which is vital to the band program.

“This is an important fundraiser for the band. The money raised will be placed in the general band fund to be used in support of the Canfield band programs for grades 5-12,” DeCapua said.

Volunteer members of the Canfield Band Parents are involved in every aspect of the event, and beyond.

“Parents are an integral part of our band family. Parents volunteer their time in the band room, as well as at the football games, concerts and special events. They are responsible for planning and executing fundraising events, such as our annual spaghetti dinner, managing band funds, organizing band uniforms and supporting the band at football games with the help of our band dads,” DeCapua said.

Adult tickets for the 40th Annual Canfield Show of Bands are $5, student/senior tickets are $3 and children under five are free.

“This special band event has been a favorite within our Canfield community and we look forward to providing them again with another amazing evening filled with music, friends and family,” said Michael Kelly, Canfield High School band director.
