Association hosts annual auction

The Tri Gold Chapter of American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) hosted its 8th annual Spring Chinese Auction on April 12 at St. Nicholas Church’s social hall in Struthers. More than 150 items, including home decor, jewelry, bedding/linens, theme baskets for adults and children, gift cards from local businesses and small kitchen appliances were featured. There were additional prize raffles of $100 and $50, a 50/50 Split the Pot, a sun hat with $25 attached to it and a super prize of a laptop computer with case and accessories.

With more than 100 people attending this year’s event, $2000 was raised to benefit the chapter’s education/professional development fund. The fund is used to award up to two scholarships ranging from $1,500 - $3,000 each year. For the last 39 years, members have awarded one million dollars in scholarships.

The Spring Chinese Auction is ABWA’s biggest fundraising event each year. Starting in the fall, they will have a holiday nut and candy sale and Rada Cutlery-Specialty Items sale.

ABWA’s mission is to bring together women of diverse occupations and provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support and national recognition.

The chapter meets on the second Wednesday of each month for dinner and a business meeting, which often includes guest speakers/program of interest. Annually, they celebrate and recognize a chapter Woman of the Year, scholarship awardees and chapter anniversary events.
