White House Fruit Farm has 2nd annual cook-off challenge

CANFIELD

The second annual Farm-Fresh Cook-Off Challenge presented by White House Fruit Farms took place Aug. 9 at the farm market.

First-place winner was Lisa Fullerton for her entry, “Red, White and Blue Stuffed Chicken Breast.” Second-place was awarded to Sandy Gabriel for her “Vegetarian Blueberry Surprise.” Juanita Taylor took third-place honors for a “Greek Chicken Veggie Salad.”

The challenge required entrants to incorporate five farm-fresh White House ingredients into one unique dish. Entries were judged on creative use of ingredients provided, visual presentation and taste.

Judging the event were Mike Iberis, director of Second Harvest Food Bank; Carol Rimedio-Righetti, Mahoning County commissioner; Gerry Ricciutti, WKBN-TV reporter; and Tricia Perry of 88.5 FM WYSU.

Debbie Pifer, White House owner, said the event is a way of promoting the many benefits of including locally produced fresh fruits and vegetables in meals.

The winning recipes are available at www.WhiteHouseFruitFarm.com.

After the event White House donated $250 to Second Harvest Food Bank to help continue its work feeding the hungry in the Mahoning Valley.
