Castillo, Santana propel Scrappers to win

WILLIAMSPORT, PA.

Leo Castillo drove in four runs to power the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to Wednesday’s 9-1 victory over the Williamsport Crosscutters in New York-Penn League action.

D’Vone McClure’s two hits included a solo homer while Steven Patterson had three hits for the Scrappers (27-36). Greg Allen also had two hits.

Four Scrappers pitchers combined to toss a four-hitter. Juan Santana (1-7) earned his first victory of the summer, allowing three hits and one run in five innings. He struck out four and walked none.

Justin Garcia pitched two scoreless innings in relief while Dominic DeMasi and Anthony Vizcaya each pitched one inning.

The Crosscutters (29-35) scored in the first inning for a 1-0 lead.

The Scrappers took the lead in the fifth inning when they scored twice.

McClure and Yonathan Mendoza singled to start the rally.

McClure scored on a sacrifice fly by Allen while Mendoza came home on one of Patterson’s huts.

They added two runs in the sixth inning and five in the seventh frame.
