Colorado town sues all its voters over election

CORTEZ, Colo.

The Colorado mountain town of Montezuma is suing its 61 registered voters in an effort to sort out the results of an April election that the lawsuit says was filled with errors.

The Denver Post reports that the lawsuit filed last week commands the voters to appear in court so a judge can examine the election results for mayor and town board.

Twelve people ran for mayor, and Lesley Davis won by three votes. There are claims that second-home owners participated, and Davis says 13 voters and at least two candidates were not residents of the town. She says the lawsuit is the only option to determine how to move forward.

Several town residents have hired an attorney to challenge the lawsuit.

Truck spills cranberry sludge on road

WOBURN, Mass.

A truck has spilled its load of what was described as “cranberry sludge” on a Boston-area highway, painting the roadway red and slowing traffic during the morning commute.

The state Transportation Department tweeted that the truck shed its load on Interstate 95 north in Woburn about dawn Thursday, forcing the closure of the one lane and an off-ramp.

According to broadcast traffic reports, cleanup crews used shovels and hoses to clean up the slippery mess, and then sanded the area, but the highway retained a distinct reddish hue.

There was no immediate word on what caused the spill or exactly how much of the sludge spilled on the highway.

Baby born while mom registers son at school

PASADENA, Texas

A mother in the advanced stages of labor thought she had just enough time to stop off and register her 4-year-old son at a Houston-area school en route to the hospital. But she was mistaken.

A school nurse and a police officer helped Vanessa DeLeon deliver her baby Thursday at the campus clinic of Fisher Elementary School in Pasadena. The boy, named Geovanni, weighed 6 pounds, 3 ounces.

DeLeon says her contractions began earlier Thursday but that she was intent on registering her son Alexis for prekindergarten at Fisher before giving birth to her fourth child.

The mother and her newborn were doing well when they were later transferred to Bayshore Medical Center.

And she successfully registered Alexis for pre-K at Fisher.
