Girard cop resigns

GIRARD — A city police officer who resigned Monday was being investigated over an internal matter, police Chief Jeff Palmer said today.

Palmer said Officer Larry Neely, who was under a “last-chance” agreement with the city because of extensive disciplinary issues, was not being disciplined at the time of his resignation, Palmer said. He was not offered a choice of resigning or being fired, he said.

Palmer said Neely was being investigated over how he handled a call. No one had complained to the department. It was strictly a policy issue, Palmer said.
