Scrappers’ Brady tosses scoreless inning in NYPL All-Star game

BROOKLYN, N.Y.
Mahoning Valley Scrapper Sean Brady pitched one scoreless inning to help the South All-Stars tie the North All-Stars 1-1 in Tuesday’s New York-Penn League All-Star game at MCU Park.
Brady pitched the third inning, giving up one hit and striking out one for South, which fell behind 1-0 in the fifth, then rallied with a run in the seventh.
The game ended after nine innings.
Scrappers catcher Francisco Mejia walked in his only plate appearance, while center fielder Greg Allen led off and went 0-for-2 with a strikeout.
Mahoning Valley left fielder Taylor Murphy also went 0-for-2.
Derek Campbell had the game-tying RBI in the seventh, hitting a one-out sacrifice fly to center to score Luis Torrens. Torrens had reached on a one-out double off of Alex Carreras, then moved to third on a fielding error by shortstop Mauricio Dubon, allowing Isaias Tejeda to reach first base.
Michael Bernal struck out to end the inning, stranding Tejeda at second.
North scored on Nick Tanielu’s soft fly ball to right, scoring Bralin Jackson from second base.
Jackson had led off the inning with a single to left off David Whitehead, then moved to second on Mason Davis’ single.
Two strikeouts later, Tanielu hit his RBI single. Hunter Lockwood struck out swinging to end the threat.
Tanielu, a designated hitter from the Tri-City ValleyCats, went 3-for-3 for the North. Mason Davis, a second baseman from the Batavia Muckdogs, added two hits.
The South squad managed just three hits.
The Scrappers (26-36) begin a two-game series in Williamsport today at 7:05 p.m., followed by a three-game series in Batavia.
Mahoning Valley is last in the Pickney Division, 111/2 games behind State College with 13 games left.
The Scrappers are also 81/2 games back in the wild-card race.
