Austintown couple bound over to county grand jury on meth charges

AUSTINTOWN — A Mahoning County grand jury will consider the cases against a township couple facing charges of making methamphetamine and having the finished product in their home.

Sharry Smart, 32, and Thomas Smart, 39, both of Ohltown Road, appeared this morning in Mahoning County Area Court here for their preliminary hearings. Both are charged with felony drug abuse, illegal manufacturing/illegal cultivation of drugs and illegal assembly/possession/chemicals for manufacturing of drugs.

The Smarts waived their rights to a preliminary hearing and had the case bound over to the grand jury. Their bonds were set at $100,000 cash or surety, and they remain in the county jail.
