SHARON, PA.

Sharon Regional Health System is now offering wound-care services at its Neshannock Diagnostic and Specialty Center, 2915 Wilmington Road, New Castle, Pa., an extension of Sharon Regional’s Advanced Wound Recovery Center in Hermitage, Pa.

Staff from the Wound Center will see patients in Neshannock to diagnose and treat wounds and medical conditions such as arterial ulcers, burns, diabetic and neuropathic ulcers, lower extremity edema, pressure ulcers, problem surgical wounds, spider and insect bites, trauma wounds and other conditions.

Through its Hermitage location, the Wound Center also offers hyperbaric medicine, which is a noninvasive procedure often used to treat chronic nonhealing wounds that utilizes a pressurized chamber containing 100 percent oxygen that enhances the wound-healing process.

The Wound Center team includes medical director and general surgeon Dr. Gene Marcelli, nurse practitioner Joyce Hawk and a nursing staff with advanced certification in wound treatment and hyperbaric medicine. For information, call 724-347-0870.

Commercial-driver physicals available

WARREN

One Health Ohio Certified Medical Examiners (CME) are available to conduct Department of Transportation (DOT) physicals at the Lloyd McCoy Health Center, 1977 Niles Road S.E.

Certified Medical Examiners have been trained, tested and certified to perform medical examinations for commercial motor vehicle drivers. CMEs understand the medical standards in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Regulations, related guidance and how they relate to the medical demands of operating a commercial motor vehicle.

After Hours Care center now open

ACH After Hours Care, 2461 W. State Street, Suite A., an urgent-care facility affiliated with Alliance Community Hospital, is now open to patients from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. During the week, the clinic is open from 4 to 9 p.m. ACH After Hours Care is a walk-in medical urgent-care clinic that specializes in the delivery of health care services for the treatment of minor injuries and illness. An urgent care should be used when someone is sick and cannot wait for an appointment with their family physician, but is not life- or limb-threatening.

UPMC accredited

PITTSBURGH

University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) East has received accreditation from Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence (ACE), a national, independent organization that evaluates and monitors facilities that provide cardiac care.

Coordinated with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the accreditation enables the Heart and Vascular Institute at UPMC East to begin offering elective angioplasty, a procedure to clear blockages in the heart vessels.

“While coronary angioplasty has been done on an emergency basis at UPMC East since the hospital’s 2012 opening, the ACE accreditation enables elective catheter-based coronary interventions at East so patients from this community don’t have to go too far to get timely treatment from experienced UPMC cardiologists,” said Dr. Abdulrab Aziz, chief of cardiology at UPMC East.

ACE accreditation recognizes UPMC East for maintaining high standards set by experts in cardiac care.
