Wesley J. Blackshear, 42, of Tod Lane was arrested Sunday afternoon and placed in the Mahoning County jail in the death of Brenden Moorer, 34, of Robinson Road in Campbell on May 24.

The Violent Crimes Task Force arrested Blackshear shortly after noon on a secret indictment handed up Thursday by a Mahoning County grand jury.

He faces a charge of aggravated murder, two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Police said Moorer was in the passenger seat of a car that drove to Tod Lane on the North Side and picked up Blackshear for a drug sale.

The shooting took place sometime after that, with Blackshear getting out of the car and running away, police said.

Moorer and Blackshear knew each other, police said.

The driver of the car panicked and drove to a McGuffey Road gas station more than 1.5 miles away, which is where police were called just before midnight. When they got there, Moorer was dead.

The indictment shows that Blackshear had a past conviction in common pleas court for aggravated robbery in 2000. Because of the conviction, he is not allowed to have a firearm. The indictment said he had a .40-caliber Glock semiautomatic pistol the night Moorer was shot.
