The Mahoning Valley Cancer Coalition is offering a program, “Hypertension and Transplantation in the African-American Community,” from 8:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 6 at St. Mark Orthodox Church, 3560 Logan Way. The speakers are Drs. Nathaniel Doe and Charles Modlin.

Dr. Doe is a board-certified nephrologist affiliated with St. Elizabeth Health Center and St. Joseph Health Center. Dr. Modlin is a kidney-transplant surgeon, urologist, director of the Minority Men’s Health Center at Cleveland Clinic, and chief executive officer of the Miracle For Life Network

Free mammograms

On Sept. 15, the Trinity Breast & Cervical Cancer Grant Program is offering free mammograms and pap smears to uninsured women, 40 to 64, at the Midlothian Free Health Clinic in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 388 E. Midlothian Blvd. To schedule an appointment, call 1-800-921-5151.

Free workshops

Humility of Mary Health Partners is offering two one-hour free workshops, “Health at Home,” on Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, 8401 Market St.

The workshops, from 11 a.m. to noon and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., include a reference guide that provides information about more than 200 common health problems, as well as tips on preventing illness and injury and advice on when to seek medical attention.

“Health at Home” workshops will also be offered at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown on Sept. 18 and St. Joseph Health Center in Warren on Oct. 22. Reservations are required. Call 330-480-3070.

Annual health fair

St. Andrewes AME Church, 521 E. Earle Ave., is having its annual Community Health Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 27.

Free screenings offered are blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol. Also available are weight and body mass index calculation and bone-density testing and information provided by community agencies. Call 330-743-2091.

Warren city child immunization clinic

WARREN

The Warren City Health Department, 418 Main Ave., S.W., will offer childhood immunization clinics from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. on Sept. 8, 22 and 29; Oct. 6, 10 and 27; and Nov. 10 and 24. The fee is $10, or Medicaid cards are accepted.

No appointment is needed. The child should be well and free of fever, rash or illness. An updated shot record is required. For information, call 330-841-2596.

Sports medicine added to services

Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley has added sports medicine to its orthopedic services, which are available at Boardman Medical Pavilion, 8423 Market St., Suite 300. For information, call 330-729-1145.

Providing services will be Dr. Christopher Liebig, who attended West Virginia University School of Medicine, completed a residency in pediatrics at Medical College of Virginia at VCU, and a fellowship in pediatric sports medicine at Akron Children’s in Akron; and Dr. Patrick Riley Jr., a graduate of Northeastern Ohio Medical University who completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at Summa Health System in Akron and a fellowship in pediatric sports orthopedics at Boston Children’s Hospital.
