BREAKING NEWS: Mahoning Valley unemployment down


YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning Valley’s unemployment rate is down 2 percent from last year, according to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services data released today.

Last July, unemployment was at 8.8 percent combined for Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull Counties with 23,100 unemployed and 240,400 employed in the Valley and this year the Valley’s July rate is 6.8 percent with 17,600 listed under unemployment and 242,300 employed.

In Mahoning County alone, July’s unemployment rate is 6.8 — down 2.1 percent from last year at this time. In Columbiana, the rate also went down from 8.3 percent in July 2013 to 6.5 percent this July.

Unemployment also went down in Trumbull with this July’s at 7 percent compared to 8.9 percent in July 2013.
