YSU professor launches website

Randy L. Hoover, emeritus professor of teacher education at Youngstown State University, has launched a new website to provide a central location for teachers, administrators and others who are committed to supporting public schools and teachers.

The Teacher Advocate at www.Teacher-Advocate.com provides visitors with a series of papers that critique Ohio’s school accountability system from a basic research point of view, said Hoover, who earned a doctorate in teacher education from Ohio State University, taught public school social studies for 12 years and later joined the faculty of the Beeghly College of Education at YSU, retiring in spring 2013.

Hoover, who received the Intellectual Freedom Award from the National Council of Teachers of English in 2012, said the website is designed to expose and examine the flaws, errors and false assumptions of Ohio’s standardized test mania as well as the pseudo accountability system that flows from the preoccupation with testing.

The Teacher Advocate also offers candid critique of the teacher unions’ positions on the critical issues, he said.
