Youngstown man pleads guilty to 2012 homicide


YOUNGSTOWN — Prosecutors are recommending a sentence of 17 years for a man who admitted to a 2012 murder on the East Side.

Jamel Smith, 21, of Kimmel Street, entered guilty pleas today before Judge Maureen Sweeney in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to charges of voluntary manslaughter, being a felon in possession of a firearm and a firearm specification for the Nov. 20, 2012 shooting death of 28-year-old Oneil Williams in the back bedroom of a home on Atkinson Avenue.
